Our Story

I just wanted to share my story to give you an idea of who I am and why we’re doing what we’re doing.

My name is Fred Vinson and my wife’s name is Mia. As you can see in the picture, that’s a picture of us at the last DoTerra incentive trip in Hawaii in Jan 2020. It also just so happen to land on the same day of our marriage anniversary. So it was a free trip and anniversary all-in-one.

Mia has been a dōTERRA fanatic for years even before she joined dōTERRA as a wellness advocate. She’s passionate about the vegan lifestyle and helping others do the same. My background is in professional sports and digital marketing.

My Sports Career

After graduating from High School in ’95, I got a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University and ended up graduating with a double major in Engineering Science and Math. After I graduated, I went on to be drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 2nd round of the 1999 NFL draft. I went on the play for the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers before my career ended with 2 ACL injuries and a few others.

After I retired from the NFL, I went on to start my career in website design and digital marketing back in 2005. So my passion is helping other business owners have success in the online space. This is where the purpose of what I’m doing with the free resources I’m giving and why I’m giving them comes into play.

My Initial Thoughts On Essential Oils

See…I was the typical male when I first heard of my wife doing dōTERRA as a business 2 years ago. I was like, ok…”that’s cute”. You go do your oils and I’ll keep paying the bills with digital marketing. That’s the mindset I had.

I knew essential oils had some good benefits and I’ve heard of some of the stories that some of her clients had and I was still like, “ok…that’s still cute”. 🙂 That was mainly b/c I never had my own real experience with them yet.

But all of that changed back in December of 2019…

My First Real Experience With Essential Oils

I remember this situation very vividly. I went to the movie theater by myself to go see the last trilogy of the Star Wars Saga 2 days after Christmas (The wife is not a fan). I remember sitting in an isolated chair with no one chairs to my right or left. I know, it was a weird chair placement.

I got home at about 1 pm and about 5 hours later I started to feel a little weird. I just blew it off as I was just getting tired sooner than usual so I just kept working on some client projects. Another hour went by and it started to get more weird. I blew it off again because I’m a trooper. 😉

By the 2-hour mark, I was like “this is soooooo not normal” and I had to shut it down (I lost my trooper status by that point 😂) and as I begin to walk toward the bedroom, I almost didn’t even make it. I felt dizzy like I was going to pass out (which I’ve never done before in my life).

The only other time I remember actually wanting to pass out was when I tore my ACL the first time playing with the Seattle Seahawks. It was during an off-season practice and I went to make a cut and my leg went one way and my knee went the other way (just thinking of it made me cringe all over again). The pain was so great I wanted someone to just hit me with a bat or something to knock me out and put me out of my misery.

So I finally make it to the bedroom and that’s when the weirdness really began. I laid down and I started to feel all kinds of flu-like symptoms. Cold chills, aches on my entire body from head to toe, dizziness, knots in my stomach, complete fatigue, etc. I was afraid to even get out of bed not knowing what was going to happen b/c of how I felt when I finally made it there.

Then I had to go to the bathroom. I thought about crawling b/c I knew my wife couldn’t carry me. So I decided to attempt to get my trooper badge back and I tried to walk myself to the bathroom. The moment I got up, I knew it wasn’t going to go well. So I slowly make it to the bathroom and got to the toilet and before I knew it, I was waking up with my head laying next to the toilet seat. I know crazy, right?

Yes…I Passed Out For The First Time In My Entire Life.

When I woke up, my head was laying next to the toilet, and thank God I didn’t feel a thing b/c it could’ve been a lot worst. My wife was freaking out and called 911 b/c she had never seen her husband like this before. She was scared out of her mind.

I actually woke up feeling great but I had a temporary memory lapse and couldn’t remember why I was there with my head laying on the side of the toilet seat. My wife was freaking out and had 911 on dial and I was like, “what’s wrong with you?” I had no idea I had just passed out. But I was laying next to the top of the toilet seat. I should’ve picked up on it right? That’s how out of it I was.

So I get back up and make it back to my bed. That’s when my wife got her oils out and did her thing. She mixed up all kinds of essential oil concoctions and slapped them on me from head to toe…literally. It felt like I was taking a full essential oil bath!

She put them on my chest, my spine, my feet, forehead, everywhere she knew that would give the best impact. She did this every hour on the hour the entire night. In my mind, I was thinking that I was going to be bedridden for at least 3 days.

But then I wake up the next morning as if nothing happened. No aches, no cold chills, no knots in the stomach, no feeling of dizziness or passing out. It was all gone…overnight. I went from being put out of commission in a 2-hour time span with all kinds of weirdness I had never experienced before to waking up feeling like nothing happened.

I don’t know what I caught in that movie theater. I keep asking myself, “did I have an early version of the coronavirus?” Til this day, I honestly don’t know. But I won’t be stepping into a movie theater for a while that’s for sure.

But after that experience, that’s when it hit me…

I was like, O (oh)…to the M (my)…to the G (goodness). What in the world is up with these oils???

My New Perception Of Essential Oils

From that day, I didn’t think those oils were just “cute” anymore. I was like…we need to get these oils into people’s hands to let them experience it for themselves.

This is what led to me wanting to partner with my wife to create a bigger impact. Her passion was already there with essential oils and healthy lifestyles. My passion was digital marketing and marketing automation. So it was just a natural fit to just do it together and work off each other’s strengths. I first planned on creating marketing automation systems for our downline and builders.

Then I thought, we could have a much bigger impact if we helped other wellness advocates do the same.

This is when The Wellness Advocate Advantage project was born. This project is designed to give every wellness advocates an advantage with building their DoTerra business. Creating the transcriptions for the classes that I’m giving everyone access to get an advantage along with the other free resources I’ll be sharing is only a fraction of the bigger vision of this project.

I’ve spent the last 12 months working on this project. It started off with a much smaller project just to help out my wife and her team, but it went into hypergear and a much bigger vision after I had my essential oil experience.

So there’s my story. Once I had an experience like that with the oils, I was all in. 👍

Fred (the oils aren’t just cute anymore) Vinson 😉
